Interior trim style

Hi can anyone tell me what style of wood this trim is? It's from an 06 Le Mans blue 3.0d. Can anyone recommend a way of getting rid of the cracks in the lacquer? They don't show up very well in the pics but do in real life

Could be Dark Poplar?

Does look like dark poplar. Had something similar in the M5 and think it was dark Myrtle.

Yeah it has cracking in the lacquer, not sure if this is common but maybe gonna try to replace it

Why not paint it - unless you like the wood look.

Paint? Hmm seen lots of stories saying don't flatten the lacquer its difficult to repair well and re-lacquer but hadn't thought of repainting. Was half thinking about carbonfibre wrapping but was trying to avoid doing the whole lot of trim. Not through laziness but by knacking it all up  :blink:

Just got a quote of £800 to replace the lower tailgate as the local body repairer thinks its rusting from the inside and would go again in a short space of time. Thought I'd got this car for a cheap price but maybe not ha ha

I was just thinking if you we're local I could've helped on both counts - know a VERY Good bodywork guy that would charge a lot less than £800 plus I've done the CF wrap and painted the interior - so you'd have something to look at before taking the plunge...

£800 is for replacement tailgate isn't it so not just painting.

Yeah I live 20 mins away from Jason so I can hook up when you come down for sure. Seen the dipping process (only on Wheeler Dealers) but it's a great idea, not just limited to CF, you can have anything you like. Having that final gloss finish is what I like.

I started with the standard silver trim, got bored and went to the wood, got ribbed by this lot, didn't care but got bored and then went for the CF wrap (see here), again got bored with the 'all black' interior and finally went for the painted finish to match the exterior of the car. It's metallic and a neutral colour for the interior with that gloss finish which really sets it off (Raj's cast offs painted, basically).
