Which scanner / OBD software should I buy?

Post by RRH » Wed May 07, 2014 11:14 am

Hi all,

Sorry if this has covered many times; I did a search and couldn't find anything recent.

At 160k miles, my car has some niggles... The PDC and remote lock haven't worked for ages, it appears to have bluetooth but I've never quite figured it out, and I've never had the aux heating working since I bought it at 30k miles.

I'd like to check out / reset whatever codes are showing, and also enable things like auto door locking.

What do I need?

Thanks
Simon :)

Depending on how far you want to go....

BMW Scanner 1.4
Carsoft
Autologic
INPA
DIS / GT1
NCS Expert
WINKIP (not recommended........Very easy to brick your car apparently)
Progmann
.
.
Dealer

Just to check codes, reset, and enable bits that might be interesting!

Thanks :)

Scanner 1.4.0 is the more common as it's cheap and tends to do what you are asking.

The others may offer more functionality but are more expensive I believe.

I have the tyre pressure warning permanently lit at the mo but the scanner doesn't bring it up for some reason...

Thanks for that :)

I realised I had bluetooth for the first time yesterday (owned it 6.5 years / 130k miles) - I thought the button was just standard fit and the module wasn't actually there...

I managed to accidentally put the temp in to F, too, when resetting the service light! Doh!
