F85 - engine cover
Just noticed that after the service the engine cover is very wobbly of the X5M. It is the rear cover, can’t see anything on the web about how these are fixed, I assume some rubber grommet somewhere and a few screws. Does anyone know?

At a guess, have a look at the underside of the engine cover to see if there are a number of ball-shaped protrusions sticking downwards. There should be a corresponding rubber grommet in a metal mount around the engine / accessories.
The X6 (I know it’s not a V8) has two slots at the back of the engine bay that the cover locates into with two ball / grommet fittings at the forward corners. The i4 is similar with 4 ball / grommet fittings (no engine!).

Thanks Richard, I had a good feel and look around it but did not see any pins sticking out, nor any rubber grommets where they would fit in unless they are much further in the middle where I cannot see it

On one of mine the cover has 2 flat fingers sort of at the rear of the cover and just 2 rubber thingies at the front.
I sort of slide the cover on towards the back then press the front down onto the ball type thing.
Hope that makes sense.

Found the way - I lifted the whole thing up so I had it in my hands. Then I could see there were 7 rubber thingies at various locations, and receptors on the engine block itself. Having seen where they were, I could apply the pressure when putting it back at just those points and now it sits fine (also about 1 cm lower then before when it was floating). Thanks for the thoughts chaps.
Now just need to find out why my airco has packed up though, which was why I was looking there in the first place.

Could be any of: Gas loss, pressure switch, or magnetic coupling failing on the compressor.
These are the usual culprits on the other X’s on this forum.

I think I will need to get it investigated rather than fill up as the car is too new to naturally have lost it. Thanks for the pointers, don’t think it looks like a diy possible check
