Post by stevo6 » Thu Sep 04, 2014 9:46 am

New owner and just wondering, what's missing from the storage compartment in my boot?

That looks complete.  Under your F.A.K. should be the polystyrene holder for your towbar swan neck.

Complete?  Really? What about the clips and empty recess next to the wheel nut?

Mine was not a factory fit tow bar - so no holder I'm afraid!  Hence ideas for storage (unless that part can bought separately - will investigate...)

First Aid Kit.....sorry.  I'm assuming that is what is in the black BMW bag?

Have replied on your other thread.  As you say if it wasn't a factory fit then you won't have the part but you've found the right one.

The other clips are empty on mine and I think are for non-UK versions but it's a 'common' part.  All I have is a red handle, screwdriver and wheel key too.  And that's from new.

Update: Just rechecked mine. Your towing eye is missing!  Unless it's somewhere else in the boot?  I had mine nicked by a recovery firm on my E53!

Where is this located as checking one out tomorrow?

I see that's where the locking nut is too?

Right at the back of the boot/back of the car under the boot floor on a 5-door.  The battery is under the black cover that holds the tools too.

Looking again, even with the towing eye in place, it seems like there should be something else in there - see the three clips marked below: what are they for??

At a guess it might be for a open ended spanner.  No idea what it would be fitting though.

It's shown on Realoem under 'Equipment parts' but I can't see where it might be used.  Perhaps for cars with the emergency spare wheel set?

You also seem to be missing a whole pile of junk, kids rollerskates, tennis rackets, chewed dog toys, umbrellas...... well I've certainly got them in mine.  :))
