De cat

Post by Spartanx5 » Wed Jun 04, 2014 7:45 pm

I am thinking of removing the cat on my x5, I was forced into doing it once on my gto, can anyone tell me if it's even possible on an 04? It just a thought but I like the idea of doing it. Less to go wrong/a tiny bit more power what's not to like?  :'(

......... An MOT failure (if CAT removal seen or emissions failed), is undesirable as is a refused accident insurance claim if an assessor notices the absence of same and the insurer disputes a settlement due to non disclosed modification.

If you wish to go down this route then another option is to have the internals on the cats removed and having the housing still in place. Appears to still be there when looking.

So it's still worth looking at then, it's in the garage at the moment having the cylinder gaskets changed as they developed a small outward trickle of oil, thought best to catch that early, has anyone hear done the led rear light conversion, it was done to mine before I got it and now every so often I get the "check tail" message come up, I am certain I need to add a resister somewhere to sort it out?

Sorry I didn't mean cylinder head gaskets I meant timing chain rocker cover gaskets. It is obvious I am no mechanic,

It can but I should have elaborated that I mean by someone like Jason who should be able to update the software to not use the readings that are sent by the lamda sensors pre and post cat.

There is an E82 in BMWcar mag that's had quite a bit of work done to it. That has had this treatment. Reason I know is that Tin bought it and discovered the hollowed out cats when he took it to Raj @Profusion to get the ret of the exhaust sorted. No engine lights etc showing up as the readings had been coded out.

The new MOT will pick up the missing cat, and the new euro vehicle inspection tests standard now being introduced phase by phase WILL allow the test systems to inspect the car electronics, so code out a CAT and it will know!  Test centres will be able to connect to the ODB2 port to read certain functions.  It will take a few years before it's all in place, but it IS coming.
