Still haven’t had the alignment done as I now have a really annoying squeaking from the front. Suspected the anti roll bar bushes (polyurethane) so disconnected the link arms and yes very stiff and some squeaking when moved, pita to get them off and lubed but afterwards the squeaking is still there ...

Question

I had a problem with the hedgehog can’t even remember if it was the x5 or Alpina where it worked fine then stopped went up and down in fan speed. Bought a new one, same problem. I read on here about squeezing the plug pin contact points. Haven’t had a problem since so I assume the hedgehog I took ...

Question

Was fiddling with the heater controls yesterday and had set them on 22c but no heat came out. Used diagnostics and found that the heater valves didn’t open to 25c however the interior temperature was showing as 23c. Is the opening temperature somehow linked be module/computer as to what temperature ...

They must have been ready to give up for some time and just needed that last pothole to finish them off. To be fair I have had a rattle/knock for some time and put it down to the drop link IMG_0649.jpeg

The MEYLE top mounts have arrived and I will hopefully get them fitted this week. The intermittent wipers are fixed by removing the relay and taking the cover off and using a mixture of sand paper and the wife’s nail file to clean up the contacts. I like these cheap fixes.

Last week I headed of to Blackburn in the Alpina and got as far as Manchester j21 before the car decided it had had enough and spluttered to a stop. As I always carry my diagnostics the problem turned out to be the crankshaft sensor. AA picked the car up and said they would relay it back to my house ...

Replacement head unit

As I kept the whole DSP set up already fitted my sound hasn’t changed at all. I think the DSP is fine although my hearing is poor and I’m aware that people in the know say it’s pretty crap sound by today’s standards. As for head units, I have Xtrons in the x5 and Eonon in the Alpina they both look ...

Coolant leaks

Well, been on a long run and all the viton seals are doing a wonderful job. However the system has found the next weak spot, the coolant pump housing seal/gasket, very minor but nonetheless irritating. So I’m going to get the 80c stat and do both while I’m there. Hopefully this will put the coolant ...

E53 X5 Accelera Iota Tyres - any good??

I’m not greatly knowledgeable on tyres but when you look at the stats that go with tyres ie noise wet grip dry grip the Accerlera are always up there and sometimes better than something twice the price.

Yes I have, 85c but I should really have opted for the 80c. Will still show 100c at idle, traffic jams etc. 93/97c on open road.

Coolant leaks

I’ve finally done the "o" rings. They don’t include the 2 rings that mount the g/b thermostat nor the seal (cone shaped) for the thermostat heater housing. Can’t find that seal anywhere for sale neither can the Americans the other 2 aer available from BMW but expensive. Of course I chucked the the ...
