im sure the engine, if properly serviced will be good for many more miles. however, im not sure about everything else, bearings/bushes/gearbox/transfer box/diffs etc may be reaching the point of needing an overhaul. it can all be replaced/repaired but at what cost?  it would have to be a very cheap car to make it worth it to me..

18k miles a year?  That's a lot of use in ten years.  To me there will be better choices out there.  As above, the engine may be fine but the electronics and ancillaries may be iffy - unless they've already been done of course.

I disagree that it's a 'lot' - I bought my x5 four years ago and it had 72k on it and it's now at 175k so basically 26k a year which for me is nothing. I used to do 60k a year bad even that didn't feel like too much, so for me 25k feels like I'm doing little in the way of mileage. I have friends that think travelling for 40 mins to go somewhere is a big deal. It's all relative.

So put it into perspective .......... To cover that mileage in ten years either means it's a taxi (unlikely) or it's been on the motorway a lot (highly probable) which in turn means there is probably less gear changes, less braking occurrences and it's spent longer in top gear.

If it has service and parts history ( I have receipts for everything right down to things that cost a quid) then it's worth considering. If it hasn't then move on quickly

I was working off the 'norm' average of 12k in yr1 then 10k/yr after that.  There are always some that will be above it....as well as below.  I used to do 22k a year but now only 4-5k.  :)

As you say, if it's motorway mileage then the running gear may be fine.  Just the electrics to have a close look at.

Good luck with the search anyway.  :)

Depends upon price ultimately. At that mileage there is a good chance that the 'norm' wearing bushes, gearbox issues, etc may actually already have been dealt with in which case may be all good.

Mines got 123k on it now and I've replaced a fair bit of her so at 180k I'd the same has also been done on it.

absolutely - hence my comment about checking service and parts history - service history alone tells you pretty much nothing other than someone changed the oil and some filters once upon a time
