Personally I would later versions of the L322 as I reckon the new L405 will push prices down a fair while............assuming the uk get half a chance to buy them in significant numbers. It may sound daft considering the new OTR price of the new model but I reckon many L322 owners with plentiful funds ( & that's a fair few), will p/x their L322's in against the L405 losing tens of thousands just to get better mpg.  . An increase of supply of used L322's is only likely to cause residuals to suffer.

An early 2006 supercharged car registered before March could make sense or if wanting the terain response then it's a 2007 car in which case I would go for the Ford developed diesel engine.

Your mates money & choice but I would not feel comfortable shelling out for one newer than 2007.

One of the most significant issue on these was the front diff failure but dealers eventually agreed to replace these prior repeat failure items with a new design part for free.

Another piece of advice would be to go for decent spec......may seem common sense but the well specced car in right colour/trim will always be relatively more desirebale later.

Just like the X5 these can be heavy on suspension/joints/brakes etc.

Twin axle self leveliing suspension as with E53 can play up & often dear to fix.

If not buying fro main dealer then a decent warranty should be considered - if that means opting out of forecourt product & buying own product from 3rd party provider such as WD then so be it.

History - RR Sport  &Disco 3 pretty similar underneath whereas L322 was designed by BMW alongside the E53 albeit has evolved due to various changes of brand ownership.

All above just my opinion & of top of head. Many others know far more re these cars, their pro's con's and importantly the market now & as expected in future once L405 established.

I'm off to look at an 05 4.4V8 Vogue SE with 89k on the clock, it's fully loaded in Black with Overfinch alloys and Supercharged grille and side vents, car looks amazing in the photos but photos can lie, just hope I'm not possibly swapping a perfectly good X5 for a load of trouble.

I only use my car at weekends so the fuel consumption isn't a problem.

I'm looking at it next week so ill let you all know.

alright, i think i've successfully converted a full fat RR fan to an X5 E70 fan:)

used this thread, very usefull, thank you:)

now the issue is what to recommend. my friend's budget is around £25k. my mate's a total non techy so highly concerned about what to buy as well :'(

is there an E70 buying guide, like the E53 buying guide  in here?

in particular, what are the 'options' in these, like comfort seats, to look out for pls?

any views re. this please

thx

Car looks nice.  Seems to have a reasonable spec.

Re-Comfort Seats.....they're like those on the E53, only much better.

I don't think anyone has written an E70 Buyers Guide yet.  I'm trying to write one for the E71 but it's taking longer than planned.... :(

That's because there's sooo many great things to take into account.  Top of the list being the awesome, fire breathing Vermilion Red  >:D

Have a gander through this thread from the e90 boys before you go looking at the linked car. At least your eyes will be open.
