Button is standard, making it work was a cost option.  Daft really!

I had it on an F10 528 and it was quite intuative. When I got the 35d, I was surprised that it isnt quite as good. You have to use specific terms before it will recognise anything. Bit of a pain in the a..

I had it in my VW and it was the best voice control system I've ever used but in my E70 after spending a load £'s it isn't standard I blame the stupid salesman again,I've read that it can activated without paying for expensive FSC code (£450) tempted…yes I am!

So does this voice recognition button work when you need to answer an incoming call but doesnt operate the multimedia functions (cd/radio/nav etc) ?

If the option isn't fitted it does nothing at all in any mode.  The telephone button is for calls.

You will need to have the retrofit kit fitted.

The later CIC (hard drive type) iDrive needs a licence key from BMW, but you may need hardware on the earlier CCC type.

I have the button on my steering wheel and when i press it i hear a beep sound but it wont take me to sat nav /radio/cd etc so assume my car doesnt have the cost option for this funtionality?

That's correct look in your vehicle order it's probably missing option code SA 620 for voice control.

As you have a "beep" when the button is pushed means the hardware is all present but the option hasn't been activated via the FSC code.

Yes it's all software needing to add SA620 to vechicle order and activating the option either by paying the dealer big £'s or by clever coding!

Have a look at bmwcoders dot com.  Lots of details on how to activate stuff without paying dealer charges.. :)

The FSC is the licence key that BMW normally provide, unique to you car as it uses the VIN.
