Have noticed my stereo seems to switch volume levels sometimes?

I will be driving along and then it seems to sound much better /louder/clearer, then it seems to drop out slightly again, is this a common problem??

p.s.  the passenger side rear door speaker is not working.

It might be the radio switching between mono and stereo if coverage is poor, but there is also a speed function that increases the volume with speed.  The first step is around 30mph if I remember mine correctly.  There was a second one around 70 I think.

You will also get a step change if a traffic broadcast comes on.

Thanks Richard, didnt spot that in my manual, yep it is noticeable at low speeds so does suggest its doing what its supposed to 

also my left n/s rear door speaker aint working, I have read that the stereos are a bit chocolate, is it likely to be a channel down on the amp or something?

Probably the bm54 unit is faulty.

Or check that all the pins on the 'quad lock' connector on the amp are fully home.  I had just one speaker out and it was the wiring.  It was the same one and if memory serves it's a green wire.
