The likes of IDrive will only get more sophisticated to a point when one day technology has a hiccup and we can't actually get where we want to get to! Look at the problems 'we' had when RBS had a minor computer glitch

....and then of course there will be the frightening bill to fix it as no Dealer will have a clue!! >:(

I already think the iDrive is complex enough - certainly for anyone travelling with no 'co-pilot'.

still not a touch-screen? is there any good reason why not?

Pass.  Reliability?  Operability?  Dunno.

I know that for the X6, and with me being well over 6' tall it's a long reach to touch the screen.  My E53 screen was much easier to reach - as it had to be as all the buttons were on the head rather than on the iDrive.  Of course I would not expect reach to be an issue for all, or even on all models, so I agree it does seem a little odd not to have included it given that many other systems do these days.  But then that may defeat the idea of the iDrive system that BMW so love......
