Forgot to renew my insurance (BMW Insurance) before I went on hols.  Renewal quote was 989.  Phoned them on return and had to be a brand new quote (customer loyalty? pfffff).  New quote 2030.  Had to pay as was not at home and needed to drive car.  Checked online today and More Than did a very similar package for 730 quid.  Suffice to say BMW policy cancelled and spleen suitably vented about the 100%+ increase in premium/lack of flexibility for long standing customer (7 years with them). 
I get the same thing every year with the home insurance too; where the renewal quote they give me is much larger than the online quote I can get for the self same cover, self same insurer.  Again, I just cancel existing policy and buy [again] online.  Grrrrr!!!

Or renewal this year from direct line was actually cheaper than last year

Not sure why insurance companies nowadays do the whole price hike thing to loyal customers only to discount when you question it as I'm sure 99% of these people do the whole comparison thing. I suppose those who don't check pay the bonuses >:(
