Argh, so the already replaced alloys (had them first replaced in 2012) on the X5 have gone and done the white worm tricks again. Car is now about to hit 4yrs old and on extended BMW warranty, dealers referred this to BMW and they have offered a goodwill gesture.

The painful piece is while BMW pay 70% of the replacement cost the dealer is quoting our portion of this to be £724+vat and £300+vat for fitting.

While I'm grateful for the goodwill - anyone else done better ? This is clearly a design flaw in the wheels with the lacquer giving up the ghost after not a long period. I'm also not happy with the charge they propose for fitting, £300 seems a bit of a piss take ?

Thoughts ?

Am I missing something? £360 to swap tyres and fit four wheels?

My local tyre place would do that for £40!?

Tbh I'd be fighting it a bit more as only lasting 2 years (unless there are signs of damage etc) isn't very good. I'd consider getting a set of second hand wheels for that is just refurbing yours for a lot less money. Tbh the. Return route would be my preferred choice rather than paying BMW £1k.

I would want them replaced or refurbished for free , just tell them you will be replacing the car shortly a Cayenne maybe the next choice !

BMW had all my wheels refurbished when i got my car - 8 months later they had all corroded again around the hubs.  Dealer blamed how they had been cleaned and wasn't interested.  I got fed up of it all just had the wheels painted instead.

I now have the issue with the rear bumper that others have reported..
Went to the dealers Sat am for the bodyshop to take a look and arrange for me to be called today to get the car in..  No call yet, useless.

I thought OEM parts all came with a 2 year warranty?  Surely the Dealer could not walk away!

They do but due to the nature of some wheel cleaners I guess they can put it down to that or something.

I would tell them to prove it, especially given a 'known' manufacturing fault exists.  Tell em you only use BMW wheel cleaner.

Totally agree buddy. I certainly would be fighting it for sure.

BUT if they really don't play ball I'd just get them redone myself for a lot less money and in the colour of my choosing and in a finish that would last.

Thanks folks, the wonders of checking back on emails shows it was actually May 2013 when we raised this first time and think they were replaced in June not 2012 from BMW service pov. Have the emails from them confirming this, so it amounts to less than 2yrs since replaced.

Does anyone know if BMW OEM 2yrs warranty covers wheels ? off to google for details but if anyone has a handy link it would be appreciated !

It covers ALL OEM parts supplied by a Dealer as far as I know.

Still with wheels but slightly different issue.
Just purchasing a 2011 X5 4.0D which has just had 4 new Dunlops fitted and the BMW sales guy said one of the OE wheels (20" M Double spoke 333) was being replaced as it was cracked. I told him that I had read somewhere that this had been an issue and the sales guy said BMW are well aware and he had known BMW to authorise replacement wheels up to 6/7 years old.
Any one else had similar issues?

Interesting...
I do believe that one cause for this cracking is the use of RFT tyres. They being a lot stiffer sidewalls transfer more shock loads to the wheel rims.
This is one reason I have fitted a set of NON RFT tyres to my "333" wheels...Aswell as a better ride quality...

I have worked in the tyre industry many years up until retirement a couple of years ago and have no love for RFT's  >:D.
I shall definitely change to non RFT's when the time comes (hopefully not for a while  )
Currently have a F25 X3 2.0D M Sport and had a rear puncture about 3 months ago and had to replace both tyres even though they had 6mm RTD, so now have one 19" Pirelli RFT with 6mm RTD in the garage.
Incidentally RFT's CAN be repaired subject to the usual physical checks and position of the penetration.
