Subs in. Sounds awesome.

I used a Kicker 08/350.02 amp thats Bi wired to a Focal 21vs Polyglass sub in the box built by X555. Remote is on the dash to fine tune.

Looks and sounds amazing.

thanks all, and Mitch for such a fine box. I'll take some pics at the we.

Hi,

Do you still have the X5 enclosures for sale?

+1. And yes I know, late to the party as usual. I didn't know how long the E53 would stay in the fleet, and it looks to be a while so mods can be thought about ( no gold paint though! )

Sanj....as you've done this, is the BSW Guide all that's needed to find the wiring connection points, or is there a bit extra needed?

Is there a matched set that goes with the 'Focus' that seems to be the 'preferred' option amongst those that have done all this? It's been a few years since I played with ICE hence just checking I've not forgotten anything. I'll go have a deeper look at the guides too via search.....

My E53 is non-DSP, with Nav and the pro audio option.

In that case you should have the Harman Kardon amp in the boot and the guys on xoutpost have a link which advises which connectors to tap into, see here:

http://www.xoutpost.com/articles/x5/ste ... y-amp.html

And the Focal sub is only preferred by Jeegnesh and Pewters as they have a better 'ear' for the sound output. I tried a 10" Infinity I owned and that wasn't a patch on this Focal 8" - so all credit to them on this. Partly due to the fact it's hand-made (so better quality) and it fits the enclosure volume just right 10 to 11 litres. Having said that, x555 went for a different sub and he's more than happy with the sound quality. Think he's got a thread (sorry I can't see it at the mo)...

You modding! :o

I'll go have a look in daylight. I don't remember ordering an HK Amp, but it was 7 years ago now. I know it wasn't the DSP option, but one down.

I used to do all sorts of modding - usually to the front end though. Last one was a T-boned Merc in 1989 :D . Well he got in the way ....... No seriousky, I used to play around with engines, carbs, audio, leccies, extra lights. Never fitted body kits though. There were limits!

If I can get an enclosure :poke: and permission from SWMBO :poke: and the E53 sits still for long enough :poke: that I can get at it then I'll see what's where.

HK will be with the Hi-Fi speaker option (I think they called it) in the early days. Easy way to tell is if you have two speaker grills in the rear doors. It's the upper tweeter grills you're looking for - have this, have the uprade.

That's the beastie - now to find a sub-amp and the speaker - if it's still made. Ta for the tip off though about the HK amp. I've had a wee look at the linky and it seems easy enough.

If I can stop SWMBO spending then I can get this in the E53 - she has the HK system in her E46, so selling the idea shouldn't be an issue. May need to remove the ICE>Link plus at the same time unless I can get her to use an old ipod to provide the audio source.

:D

No problem - in the link you're looking at the last connectors - pins 1, 2 and 24, 25 (I think). This gives you the woofer feeds to the external amp you install. Then that goes to your sub via the speaker outputs on the same amp.

Any amp will do - ebay is a good source. I just bought a JBL amp (2 channel, bridgeable) for £28 delivered. Look for one with the cut-off frequency to the amp, helps with tuning it just right. The reason for my swap. Oh and get a small one too - it will tuck away nicely in the cubby hole.

The Focal is the dear one, cheapest is £135 (I think) from a Hounslow/Hayes place - then just your charm with x555!

If anyone is interested, I have an unused one of these for sale due to a change of plans. £175 inc P&P. All I've done to it is paint it black.
