A Downside of X5 Ownership
Re: A Downside of X5 Ownership
Good thread,
I always park my car round the corner if someone is coming to my house to give me a quote on something.
However, I am also find myself feeling a tiny bit envious when I see people driving a New Range Rover or Merc's ......

I am thinking of buying maybe a Range Rover Sport, Landrover Discovery or a E70 in the new year!
As stated before do love the E53 but they are looking a feeling a bit old now!

Re: A Downside of X5 Ownership
This would have been a good topic in the general forum as I bet we all experience this. We too have had the looks and the comments we a have a new F15 and a 6 month Z4. But so what, we work bloody hard.
I have however probably not helped the problem.
I've retired but am garden and paint to keep me put of mischief. I was painting a fence and the clients neighbour stuck his head out, looks down his nose at me and says 'are you some kind of painter'?
Suppose so.
How much to paint my fence?
£100.
Your having a laugh, I'll give you £50
No thanks.
The clown gets my number and calls me the next day makes the same offer and says he won't tell on me to the benefits!
So I jump in the F15 drive up his driveway, knock his door and say I have some paint in the car if he still wants his fence painted for £100. I then tell him that I might be ages with him but I'm not on benefits nor am I a drug dealer I'm actually retired and never to phone me again.
Turns out he is the street twat hated by his neighbours and when the word got round, I painted half a dozen round him.

Re: A Downside of X5 Ownership
Many times, I've put my toe down on the M3, passing 1200cc Corsa's with bucket sized exhausts getting nowhere loudly, and as I cruise past with a swish of M-Class Luxury, it is usually greeted with the middle finger of the car I'm passing..
So, my thought on this is.... I work damned hard, and these people want one too....
So, it makes me feel proud that I have become part of an elite few that are smart enough & work hard enough to own such a nice piece of engineering.
Case rested lol.

Loving this thread, it is so true that people treat you differently in a car like an X5. I've had some nice compliments too so it kind of balances out. My wife gets more grief in it than me for some reason. I think some guys hate seeing a girl driving such a nice car, dents their ego a bit... >:D

I found very little hostility aimed at me in the X5- the X6, however, is a different matter.. And it doesn't help that it's white with black gloss wheels >:D

Re: A Downside of X5 Ownership
That's coz the X6 looks the part, the X5 is just another pimp mobile....
)
The X6 has that 'get out of my way Now!' look.

Re: A Downside of X5 Ownership
Another downside is that I cant seem to want any other car except a BMW/RR 4X4 which will be a hefty drain on my pockets

Re: A Downside of X5 Ownership
Another good point. I've had 4 range rovers a landy and a disco since 2002. Always alongside a sensible or summer car. Now I can't see me going back to a LR product as the x5 is more versatile and usable on the road to the extent I don't miss the green laning even...
Hard to imagine anything but a RR SPORT being a worthy replacement and they breakdown badly, so I'm going nowhere but X...

Re: A Downside of X5 Ownership
deffo a part of x5 ownership, shows the power of the media that people think you are solely responsible for killing the planet and causing the majority of road casualties....
