It will need a conversion because of the voltage differences. Car = 12V DC. USB = 5V DC . Will need a resistor on Pin 1 to 'drop' the voltage.
My bad if I misunderstood your valid suggestion though.

I was thinking that as the usb was going to be used, he could use the supplied converter to plug it in.

Damn you boys really trying hard to give Sanj a new job, not sure I want to go down that path to be honest, not ideal but it does have it's advantages being portable. If it bugs be in the long term then maybe a consideration.
The converter in question is a 12v USB plug but it just like cig lighter, no leads or anything, so would mean breaking that apart too.

Nope, you could put an inline lighter socket somewhere so that you could un plug the lead to update from the laptop.
Just a thought, wouldn't want Sanj getting bored

Just had a thought about one of the issues I have, which is when I get back home I forget to turn it off, so I just added my home as a POI so I'll get an annoying beep as I get home and hopefully that will remind me to turn it off
Man on fire...

Should've spent a bit more cash and bought a proper snooper!
