While walking the dogs this morning I had a light bulb moment

Did I read in another post some time back that you raised the ride height on your X5?
If you did, did you adjust the headlamp levelling sensors by the same amount ?

yes, you remembered well... the ride height is not the issue...
the issue is that the Main AND Dip aim at the same distance, so even with main beam on, the ball of light sits on the road where the dip beam line ends... raising the aim simply dazzles the oncoming traffic with the dip beam & the mains are still not high enough.

Just a thought (and I may be way off track!), but have you got aftermarket bulbs installed? If the filament is incorrectly set (or the arc if HID) then it could throw the beam out. If you put a reputable brand of lamp in (such as the OEM originals unless those are the ones you are using in which case ‘cancel my last’) does it change anything?

Hi Richard, I think you are onto some thing here..
In theory the main beam should be spread out more & these head-lamps have HID's fitted.

My previous X5 was a year older 2004, & may have had a slightly different reflector, but those lights were spot on with HIDs fitted.
I will have a play in the week.
