I would appreciate some help regarding the unintentional opening of my X3 boot. Parked reasonably close to a wall yesterday and I must have squeezed the key fob and the boot tried to open. Luckily there was a piece of wood fixed to the wall and that prevented damaging the paint work.

Is there a way to prevent this from happening using the various set up menus.

Many thanks

Given it did what it’s supposed to do, it’s probably unlikely or you’d never be able to open the boot with the key. I’ve not seen an option such as that in any BMWs where the key can open the tailgate and there’s nothing on my G26 with idrive 8.

The ‘quick fix’ would be to get a key cover as those usually are thick enough to prevent this sort of issue. Either that or keep the key in a faraday pouch when not using the car.

I purchased item 4 here from BMW for mine:
