X3 E83 Newbie

Post by LeMansBlue330d » Thu Jun 16, 2016 1:34 pm

Hi folks, I never knew this forum existed until today.  I have a 2004 X3 E83, which was an ex-demo from Williams Bolton in nice sapphire black.  Being a ex-demo model, it almost has every option on it, and most are nice-to-haves really, but now that I have used them, my next car will definitely need to have them fitted.

Anyway, whilst on holiday, my car, which was driven by my father-in-law had parked it in a parking bay in our local village, and I want to know some advice on whether you guys think my car is a write-off judging from the pics posted on here.

It's a 2004MY E83 X3 3.0 M Sport with 137k miles.
The car was stationary at a parking bay in our local village at the time with no-one in it.  A LGV truck had reversed into it causing the attached damage.

What do you all think?  A write-off?  My next door neighbour, who works in the insurance industry, seems to think it will be a write-off!
Cheers  :(

Hi

It will depend on the value they put on your car, although the damage looks limited to front wing and poss front bumper and tyre BMW parts are expensive and it will be close and similar to an x5 that a member had written off

If it's also a door and or a bonnet then I would say yes, but remember you can always buy it back and do the repair yourself and get good second hand parts, is a way to keep the cost down as you said it had a lot of options, although there may be a suitable replacement out there, and it may be worth just having a look at the various car sites.

Insurance co will always start with low offers if writing the car off and you may need evidence of similar cars to yours and their real cost of replacement to help your case. Also  have a look at posts by Jagr as he had dealing with insurance co recently

Hope it goes ok

As indicated......If it's just the wing and tyre/rim you should be ok.

I woukd get aome quotes & explain to repairers cost is an issue to avoid write off status.

Main dealers will likely quote more.......but you should be able to choose other repairers so long as insurer& VBRA approved.

Welcome btw  :)

Graemex5, if it comes to a write-off and I wish to have it repaired myself, will it still be categorised?

Just got a note that they have deemed the car as a Total Loss!!!  Sent the pics to a trusted bodywork repairer, and they reckon buy it back at 20%, then use the rest of the money on the repairs.  Although it will be classed as either Cat C or D (not sure which yet), we plan to have it repaired economically, and run the car till it can run no more.
It's only done 132k miles, which is about average and we think it can handle a few more years of good motoring from the trusted engine.
Still await final engineers report to establish their actual reason for the total loss.
Will keep you posted.
