turbo issues....

Post by jimmb1985 » Tue May 03, 2016 5:04 pm

Hi All, Bought the X3 at the end of last year. The turbo has started whining quite loudly and 'rattling' when first coming on boost. When coming off and then back on the throttle, it hesitates before pulling.

There is a 'missfire' while at idle sometimes, not all the time. Rev and it clears and revs fine but drops back down to a 'miss' knock the engine off and its fine. No eml lights, DPF is fine as ive had that done.

any one else had similar issues? Where is the best place to source a new/refurbished turbo charger?

56 plate 2.0d x3

Regards,

James.

What is your mileage?
What is the service history like?

First buy a C110 scanner from eBay for around £40 or Carly BMW (£80 is for dongle and software).

Cheap items to do which if nothing else is good maintenance is:

Both Thermostats
Toilet roll breather for the vortex type
Change the oil feed pipe to the turbo (if oil changes have been over 10k they can clog)

Have your swirl flaps been removed?

Trickier items but I would scan it first are:

MAF filter
MAP sensor
EGR could be clogged

Mileage has just gone over 118k now. Has a full service history.

Turbo Is getting changed next month so oil feed will be new to. Swirl flaps will be getting blanked off to as well as another service because I want it remapped as I've read that really improves them. Where's the best place to order a turbo from? Don't want it to go bang after a few days

Hi Jagr,

I'm having a similar problem as the original poster, please see link below

http://xdrivers.co.uk/forum/index.php/t ... 529.0.html

My question is as I have the N47 engine, (the original poster has the M47 engine I believe), does all the things on your cheap things to try apply to my engine too? I.e the:

Both Thermostats
Toilet roll breather for the vortex type
Change the oil feed pipe to the turbo (if oil changes have been over 10k they can clog)

Thanks :)
